His paternal great-grandparents, Anna Jonas Stose and George Willis Stose were both geologists with the U.S. Geological Survey, recognized for decades of fieldwork mapping the geology of the Appalachian region. That same discipline—precise observation, patient documentation, and respect for structure—carries forward into Gil’s approach to architectural photography.
